Well, Summer seems to be over! So now we should joyfully embrace Autumn, the season that is always as it should be, crisp, cool, cosy and a little bit darker.  Getting our homes ready for Autumn is a ritual that imbues a sense of warmth, golden colours, low sunlight and anticipation of luxurious lounging on velvets and faux fur!  Whether you are doing a major decorating job, adding some jewel coloured cushions or dressing to sell this is the time for a forage into the beautiful trends for the new season.

Many of us have a backdrop of grey as this has been a major colour over the past few years.  It serves us well as a neutral backdrop for two of the trends for this year. Jewel colours and modern pastels try velvet cushions in golds, rusts and olives to give your sofa a cosy and inviting colour scheme.  Add a couple of throws in oranges or plum reds and this will transform your grey surroundings to an inviting and luxurious retreat from the rain.  There are some lovely pinks around this year and teamed with olive colours and maybe a pop of brown this will give a modern look to your grey backdrop.

And so, to bed, there is nothing cosier than an autumnal hued bed! Treat yourself to some washed linen sheets, pick shades of marigold, plum or rust for a shot of drama.  Layer different shades to add depth, try adding some warm white lightbulbs to your bedside lights, switch on Netflix, light the fire and away you go.
